The Coyote usually occupies a wide variety of habitats in Mexico, including the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca and several Oaxacan villages. Our Spirit is a tribute to this mammal whose name comes from the Nahuatl Cóyotl since it plays an ecological role when feeding on carrion and controlling rodents, insects, rabbits, snakes, and hares and achieves a balance function in the ecosystem, which is beneficial for everybody.

That is why we have decided to honor Coyote with one of the most ancestral drinks of our country and typical of Oaxaca since the word Mezcal also comes from Nahuatl derived from mexcalli (“metl” or “meztl” -maguey, and from “ixcalli” -cocer) and the translation would then be “maguey cooked”.
